Happy New Year!

As 2010 approaches tonight, I wanted to provide an update on Chris. He is still undergoing Chemo treatments at Vanderbilt. They recently made some new changes to his medication and he is now getting oral Chemo in addition to IV.

He did get some results from the latest scan that show the Cancer is regenerating in his liver, which isn't the best news, but Chris is still trying to stay positive and staying with Chemo treatments until he can get to Houston and see what the other options are at The Burzynski Clinic.

His goal is to get to Houston, and hopefully, that will happen in the next 4 - 6 weeks. He has a little bit of fundraising left to do, so if you can contribute, that would be greatly appreciated.

Chris has received several large gifts recently during the month of December and he would like to personally thank the kind folks that were able to assist. We should be able to get some thank you cards out shortly.

Crest Honda plans to host a raffle on some country music items, more details to come as available. We will post that information here. We are greatful to Crest Honda and the entire staff for all of the support they have provided and positive, kind words about Chris. They really are a great group of people.

Again, thank you everyone for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Hopefully 2010 will turn out to be a great time for Chris with the new treatment options in Houston and will bring positive results!

Change of plan

Chris has decided to resume Chemotherapy treatments at Vanderbilt while getting financially ready to go to Houston, so that trip is on hold for now, but hopefully he will be financially ready to go by the first of the year.

If you would like to send Chris a gift, you may do so by one of two methods:

Send a donation via PayPal to chrisearlesinfo@gmail.com

Chris would like to thank all of you that have been able to provide a donation! He is in good spirits and wants to get to Houston soon, but has changed the plan to make sure he is financially able to begin treatment as well as continue once it has started.

Thank you!

A special thank you to all the people that have sent in donations today! We had a great first day and really appreciate all of the support!

Chris will be selling a tractor, car, and other items soon. Once we post them on Craigslist, we'll put links to them here.

Please send this website to anyone you know that would be interested in Chris, his story, or, able to help. Money isn't everything -- if you just share the story that is great! If you are able to gift any amount, that is appreciated, but getting the word out is important also!

Again, our family thanks you! We're going to try to get a "goal" graphic worked out to show progress as soon as possible.

Donations

We will start taking donations soon. We're in the process of researching the type of bank account required, along with all the legal information required to properly manage it.

Chris has new options with The Burzynski Clinic, however, it is probably going to be very expensive, so we're getting started with the fundraising efforts. We're researching different fundraising opportunities with local movie theatres, skating rinks, magic clubs, and other options. If you have any ideas, please e-mail us.

chrisearlesinfo@gmail.com

The types of items covered by donations will include:

Travel fees
Lodging fees
Hospital/Clinic fees
Medication/Treatment fees

If Chris has to travel from his home to Houston, TX monthly, the travel fees alone will be very expensive. Hopefully they will be able to get him on a treatment program and minimize travel expenses, but we are unsure right now. Many of these questions will not be answered until his first trip. Currently, there is no tenative date, but as soon as we have a date, it will be posted here.

Thank you for your support.

Halloween

Chris took everyone trick-or-treating in Portand, TN this weekend. He, his wife and son, and other family walked around a neighborhood for a couple of hours. It seemed as though hundreds of people were out and about, going house to house for candy.

A local church setup at a home with coffee, hot chocolate, food, and of course, candy for anyone stopping by. Chris took the time to speak with the people from the church. Not one time did he mention his cancer or his illness, and simply focused on getting to know the neighbors and have a good time.

He seemed really upbeat and able to go around the neighborhood and keep up with his young son and nephews. It was a really good time, and for a night we all could put his illness in the background and just enjoy the time together with the kids.

The Burzynski Clinic

This week, Chris was given the news that a new clinic has reviewed his medical records, and they would like him to travel to begin treatment in Texas.

Read about The Burzynski Clinic here: http://www.burzynskiclinic.com/

When Chris begins treatment, it is very likely that it will not be 100% covered by insurance, and be very expensive for the parts that are not. We ask for your help, even if you cannot donate money, to share the story with someone you know.

New Blog for Chris Earles

We're setting up a new blog site here for Chris Earles. During 2009, he was diagnosed with Bile Duct cancer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This is an extremely aggressive cancer.

Bile Duct Cancer @ Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bile_duct_cancer

Bile Duct Cancer @ Mayo Clinic: http://www.mayoclinic.org/bile-duct-cancer/

Chris has never smoked a day in his life, is always active, and usually works 50+ hours per week. He also works on cars for friends and family during his off time. During his recovery from the hospital, he pushed himself to finish a screened in porch on his property.

He enjoys taking his 9 year old son to Titans games and working around his house.

After an operation removing 70% of his liver, he was told nothing could be done to rid him of this cancer. The cancer has now spread outside of his liver. He is determined to never give up.

Chris, after getting this news, traveled to The Mayo Clinic during October 2009. After spending over $1,200.00 for the trip that should have lasted 3 days, he was sent home after 2.5 hours, and told nothing could be done, go home and start chemotherapy.

Chris has never asked anyone for anything -- he is very independant and takes care of his own situation. This time, he may not be so fortunate. He and the family simply do not have the resources to help him very far into a new treatment that may cost $15,000.00 per month with some treatment possibly covered by his insurance, some maybe not.

On the Internet, you read these stories all the time. The economy is tough, and everyone seems to be struggling. Chris is struggling with something he wants to recover from, and he is determined to try. For his wife and son and our family, he is living one day at a time, and trying to stay as positive as possible.

Over the coming weeks, you will learn more about Chris. Our family asks that you share his story. He has medical insurance, his personal affairs are in order, he has life insurance... but he is now investigating other treatment options to help prolong his life that will likely not be 100% covered by his insurance, and will cost many thousands of dollars.
